Proving their mettle once again, girls have outshone boys in the Class-12 results declared by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) on Friday. The topper from Amritsar is medical student Prabhnoor Kaur Gill, who has bagged 10th rank in the state by scoring 98%. She is a student of Government Senior Secondary School, Heir, Ajnala Road.
The overall pass percentage of girls in the state is 84%, while boys have recorded the pass percentage of 71%. From the district, eight students have made it to the merit list, of which six are girls, said deputy district education officer Satish Kumar.
The second and third position in the district have been grabbed by students of Guru Nanak Public Senior Secondary School, Chananke. While Avneet Kaur Randhawa (97%) has secured 14th rank in the state, Supreet Kaur has achieved 18th rank with 96%.
Mridu Arora of Government Senior Secondary School, Chheharta, is fourth in the district and 19th in Punjab with 96%, while fifth position has been grabbed by Abhijeet Mohan Singh (95.7%) of Government Senior Secondary School, Heir, Ajnala road. With the state rank 20, he has been named in the sports merit list.
The sixth position in the district and rank 21 in the state is shared by Deekshant Sharma of DAV Senior Secondary School, Hathi Gate, and Rasheem Kashyap of SSSS Khalsa Senior Secondary School. Both of them have scored 95.5%.
Simrandeep Kaur (95%) has bagged seventh position with rank 22 in Punjab.
Quality, not quantity, matters: Topper Prabhnoor Kaur
Amritsar topper Prabhnoor Kaur Gill is the daughter of Rita Gill, who is the principal of Prabhnoor’s school in Ajnala.
Talking to HT, Prabhnoor said: “There is no substitute for hard work. I have learnt this from my principal and mother. What worked for me is qualitative effort rather than quantitative approach towards study.” She said more than private coaching, excelling at medical subjects required self study and self realisation.
“Never count how many hours you studies. What’s important is how many productive hours you had,” she said.
